If you are like me and don’t like chugging a vacuum cleaner around the house, dealing with the noise, and causing too much hassle, then here are other ways that you can get a good clean of your carpet.
Carpet Sweeper

If you don’t know what a carpet sweeper is and you are in for a treat because it combines The Best of Both Worlds.
You don’t need to plug it into an outlet unlike in your vacuum cleaner. It’s also as portable as a simple broom and a dustbin.
Pros of using a rug beater
- Portable and simple to use. You can carry it around the house easily, and no outlets are necessary to get a good carpet cleaning.
- No dust clouds, unlike a broom.
- Relatively cheap compared to a vacuum cleaner.
Cons of using a carpet beater
- You might find thicker rugs are a bit harder to clean.
Use a Broom

Brooms are cheap, easy to use, and a household essential. You can in fact get a deeper and a better clean with a broom instead of a vacuum cleaner even. Simply spray some water on your carpet to prevent any dust clouds and sweep the dirt and debris with ease.
It’s a better idea to gather all the debris, dust, etc in one area and then sweep them into the dust bin in one go, instead of sweeping and binning simultaneously.
Pros of using a broom
- Depending on your carpet thickness and texture, certain debris can get stuck and tanged inside the carpet. Vacuum cleaners are unable to reach that far deep into the carpet and the suction power decreases the deeper it is. A broom, on the other hand, can easily flick away anything that is stuck inside the carpet and get a better clean.
- It is quick and easy. The effort involved with setting up a broom and a dustpan are significantly easier. When it comes to vacuums, you have to check whether the dustbin is full, plug in the chord, carry it around, unplug the chord when done vacuuming, and put it back in its place.
- Brooms are much cheaper and offer the same, if not, better cleaning.
- You won’t disturb your neighbors or cause noise pollution
Cons of using a broom
- Brooming and sweeping a carpet can cause dust clouds and get your sofa, and other furniture dirty.
- Dust in the air can cause allergies for people who are sensitive to dust.
- A good clean requires with a broom requires more effort.
Carpet / Rug Beater

A rug beater is a tool specifically designed to pound off any dust and gunk off a carpet. If you have a backyard, then it can be a fun exercise for the kids.
Pros of using a rug beater
- A fun exercise you can have whilst cleaning your carpet.
- Rug beaters are cheaper and easy to use. You can even use any other type of stick.
Cons of using a carpet beater
- You need a backyard to clean your carpet with a rug beater. Otherwise, your house will be full of dust clouds and cause more trouble than it’s worth.
- If it’s a large carpet you will need help from other people to lift it up and set it in place.
Using a Washing Machine

If you have a small rug then you can use a washing machine to clean it. However, I would not recommend you to use the washing machine if you have a very sensitive and expensive carpet. because using a washing machine can cause wrinkles and damage to a sensitive fabric.
Pros of washing machine
- It’s very simple and one of the easiest methods.
- You save time and energy.
Cons of washing machine
- Only limited to very tough and durable materials.
- You will have to wait for it to dry and deal with moisture.
Carpet Sticky Roller

A carpet sticky roller can also be a viable solution explain. However, it may not be the most economical way to clean your carpet because it’s quite easy to use all of your sticky rollers. But it is a relatively easy alternative to clean your carpet without a vacuum cleaner.
